Wags' All Natural Dog Biscuits

Meet Nike and Gracie.
We call them the twins which is appropriate because they really are. Being very friendly and active (probably in that order) it seems like they are always hungry. I feel guilty giving them store bought in between meal snacks that are usually very expensive and at the same time not very good for them. Just try reading the ingredient labels next time you open one. And don't even think of trying to smell them or you'll never give them to your pets.

Here's a quick and easy recipe anyone can do that is high in fat but very tasty and all natural. Best of all your dogs will love them and love you for making these. It's to the point now that Nike and Gracie know when I'm making them and they circle me like sharks until the first batch is done and they get a taste. It really takes longer to bake them than to whip up the dough.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup whole wheat flour

1 cup white flour 1 cup rolled oats

1 cup chicken broth or stock

1/2 cup peanut butter (I use the smooth kind)

1/4 cup honey

1 tablespoon coconut oil (can substitute vegetable oil but coconut is better for them)

That's it.

First the flours and rolled oats together in a large bowl

In a separate bowl, whisk together all the wet ingredients
Peanut Butter

Ho
Honey

And Chicken Stock

Be sure to clean out any empty peanut butter jars very well for recycling.  I find  that dog tongues work best.

Whisk the peanut butter mixture until it is smooth.

Now whisk or use an electric mixer to mix in the flour mixture into the liquid to make the dough.

Roll the dough out to ¼ inch even thickness and use your favorite cookie cutter to make cut outs.
I use 1 inch dog bone cut outs.

Bake in a pre-heated 350 degree oven for 16 minutes.  Remind the dogs that they need to be patient while the batch is cooking.  I usually yield about 6 – 7 dozen small dog bone cookies out of this and some very happy dogs!

Word of caution, these are all natural with no preservatives and won’t last for weeks. They can get moldy if you let them hang around too long. That’s never been the problem around my house though.

Enjoy!
